Acadiana Oilfield Instruments Tong Torque System measures the torque applied to tubing, drill collars, drill pipe, and casing during the production of the joints. Getting these indications help to minimize the drill collar and tool joint failure resulting from a bad build process.

Application Methods 

  1. Installation: Mount the compression load cell between the tong and the reaction point using the provided L-shaped bracket. Ensure all hydraulic connections are secure.
  2. Calibration: Perform initial calibration using the certified calibration tool according to API 6A standards before first use.
  3. Operation: During joint make-up, monitor the torque gauge continuously. The target pointer should reach but not exceed the recommended torque value for the specific pipe size and grade.
  4. Maintenance: Inspect hydraulic hoses weekly for leaks or abrasions. Clean the load cell monthly with solvent to remove drilling mud accumulation.
  5. Troubleshooting: If readings fluctuate abnormally, check hydraulic fluid levels and inspect for air bubbles in the system.

Safety Note: Always wear appropriate PPE during installation and operation. Never exceed the maximum rated torque capacity of the system (10,000 ft-lbs).
