Hydraulic cylinders dengan style tie rod menggunakan high strength threaded steel rods untuk menahan kedua ujung end caps ke cylinder barrel. Produk ini dapat anyak ditemukan di pabrik industri terapan. Bore cylinders berukuran kecil, biasanya memiliki 4 tie rod, sedangkan bore cylinders berukuran besar dapat memiliki sebanyak 16 sampai 20 tie rod untuk menjaga end caps yang dalam kondisi dibawah tenaga besar yang dihasilkan.

Tie rod style cylinders dapat di dibongkar secara keseluruhan ketika perawatan atau perbaikan, namun mereka tidak selalu dapat disesuaikan. National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) telah menetapkan standar dimensi dari hydraulic tie rod cylinders. Ini membuat silinder dari berbagai macam produsen dapat ditukar-tukar pada mounting yang sama.
